Are You Happy? 7 Ways To Find Happiness & Enjoy Your Life

Life is too short to live in sadness and hopelessness.

Amazingly, unhappy people live in slums and palaces of all countries. It’s neither money and all it buys nor achievements and titles that bring happiness.

Yet, anyone can learn to be happy despite their circumstances. It’s a choice and an attitude we all must learn if we’re to enjoy our short journey on earth. Let’s learn from little children. They enjoy life without a care in the world and their infectious happiness should remind us to take it easy and enjoy the ride of life.

Here are a few tips that have helped me find joy at every stage and situation of my life:

#1: Value & Know Yourself. I like to say you’re the VIP you need to treasure and value first among human beings. Have a purpose to live for. Know your personality style. Eat well and exercise your body. Do things that make you happy. If you neglect yourself, you’ll begin to neglect your other goals. If you value and love yourself, you’ll find it easier to love and value others. It begins with you.

#2: Hard & Challenging Times Are Normal. Accept them, learn from them and do what you can to overcome them. From personal experience, I know hard times can make someone wiser, more patient and build character. But that depends on a person’s attitude or else hard times can leave them beaten down and bitter. Rather than waste time worrying about what you can’t change, use that time to learn and transform yourself into a better person.

#3: Cease Comparing Yourself & Competing With Others. You’re unique and on a personal journey. Simply make the most of who you are and what you have. Why live to please others when you’re miserable on the inside? Many times, we overrate our importance before people who don’t care about us as much as we think or who are busy pursuing their dreams. Set smart goals within your abilities and limits, and surpass them irrespective of what others are achieving. Be the best you be. That’s all.

#4: Make Others Happy & Give Them Hope. Cherish your family first because it’s the foundation of your social interactions. Show kindness to the hungry, homeless, orphans, widows and your enemies too. Those who have learnt the secret of serving others will find more happiness at every turn. Be an encourager and a hope giver. Being helpful and mindful about the interests and feelings of others will make you happy and open unexpected doors into a life you never imagined.

#5: Forgive & Let Go. People will hurt and take advantage of you. When they do, forgive them. They might be hurting too or ignorant of your value or simply selfish but never let them pull you down, steal your joy or turn you into a bad and bitter person. No one deserves a constant presence in your mind over what they did or did not do to you. Bible says, “Do not let the sun go down when you’re still angry.” Ephesian 4:26. As far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Have the courage to walk away from relationships that are adding no value to you.

#6: Keep Your Conscience Clean & Clear. Every time you go against your values and what you believe in, you bring confusion and frustration into your life. The only person you must face in the mirror every morning is you, how then can you betray yourself? Be a person of integrity to yourself and others. Practice the golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. A clear conscience is good for your emotions, mental wellbeing and physical health.

#7: Acknowledge The Love & Sovereignty Of God. Certain happenings about life are hard to understand. Certain answers are hard to find. And certain situations are beyond our control. The God who created you knows the agenda of your life. He gave you life and can take it away in an instant. He alone has the power to stop or allow the things that happen to us.

Rather than worry about the tomorrow you can’t see, focus on making the today you have the best it can be. And never think you’re smarter than your Creator. Humble yourself and heed what He says about life. After all, no one will ever love you as He does. That’s why I do my best to live by His guidelines as taught in the Bible.

Let me leave you with these scriptures on happiness:

He who heeds the word wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he. Proverbs 16:20 NKJV

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4 NKJV

“There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.” Isaiah 48:22

You can be happy and enjoy every minute of your life no matter what you’re going through.
